History of the Eiffel Tower
-Start of Eiffel Tower construction: January 26, 1887.
-Completion of Eiffel Tower construction: March 31, 1889.
-Construciton Time for the Eiffel Tower: 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days-start to finish.
-Principal Designer/Contractor: Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.
-At the time of its completion, the tower stood as the tallest structure in the world. It has sinced been surpassed.
-In 1909, the tower was nearly demolished and sold off as scrap. It was saved for its use use as a telecommunications structure.
-The Eiffel Tower is open to all visitors every day of the year.
-The city of Paris owns the Tower and leases it on a renewable contract to a firm called the Societe d'exploitation de la Tour Eiffel.
-Estimated number of visitors to the Tower since completion: Over 250 million people.
-A con artist sold the tower twice to unknowing buyers for scrap in 1925.
